9 seconds isn't a momentary lapse. Another pitiful sentence.

My last car (in 1976) was Sunbeam Rapier with a twin choke carburettor. Coming up to traffic lights the secondary fuel jet fell out and jammed the secondary choke valve open (luckily it stayed jammed in the choke venturi) and the engine raced off to full twin choke power, despite my lifting the right foot completely off the pedal, it took barely seconds to hit the clutch, and switch off the ignition, and then work out what on earth was happening.

Not a freak accident, a failure to control the vehicle, when struck by a coughing fit. Dealing with detail such as the bonnet flying up and blocking your forward view - at 50mph are rare (happened twice on vehicles I've been driving) but possible events, and bringing the vehicle safely to a halt should be within the competence of the person driving the car..

all these cars must have a mind of their own

The driver whose car overturned outside a Vale of Glamorgan primary school injuring nine people has spoken of his terrifying experience

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-22999329

freak accident.. could've happened to anyone...

It is clear sympathy was with the killer right from the start.

http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/crime/10501995.Driver_s__lapse_of_concentration__led_to_death_of_top_veteran_cyclist__court_told/?ref=rss

brief lapse of concentration led to the accident that "could have happened to anybody".

defence barrister, Ian West, said it was a case of "there but for the grace of God go I".

Cyclists fault for being there obviously.

Yet another disgusting sentence. I have stopped being surprised a long time ago but I still want to throw up every time I read yet another story like this.

I learnt to drive on the A19. I have seen people driving the wrong way down it, seen FAR too many people speed on it. This unfortunately does not surprise me in an areas of the country where being a driver and having a car is the be all and end all of life.

I should also point out that the night before my A-level results 2 friends of mine were killed in an accident where they were speeding on the A19. The driver lost an eye. The front seat passenger broke her neck and her collar bone requiring a neck brace for 2 years. The north east is a horrible place to ride/drive.

Driver aware event was taking place, cyclist would have been visible to him for 9 seconds. Completely unaware he had hit a cyclist till he looked in his mirror. This man should clearly be registered blind and banned from ever being within 3 foot of a car.
