Huff a bit, then sulk some, then get 'agro' from wife. Go out to garage and sulk some more, make sure shoes are off before coming back in sometime later.

Somehow stain is gone, I think they just disappear themselves after time?

I would go for the special household stain remover for oil.

I tried one once after throwing red wine over the cream carpet of the flat I was just about to move out of and it worked a treat.

There are household stain removers formulated for oil. What you don't want to do is wash the stain further in to the carpet, or spread it wider.

Alternatively, soak whole carpet in bike oil until it is a uniform colour.

Try Green Gunk and a nilon bristled brush then borrow someones carpet cleaner (think water hoover) to suck up the fluids. Repeat as required.

I was going to say 'obviously try a test patch before...' but I guess the damage is done.

There are also other degreasers, one which smells of oranges, but I can't recall its name. I use GUNK, there are two types, Red and Green. I forget the exact difference but the Green is supposed to be kinder to the environment. Both are water soluable.

I have this from Halfords GUNK

Hello,

Anyone got any fantastical miracle solutions for getting chain oil/road grease out of your carpet? Cleaned my bike the other day and just have stepped in some in the clean up process. Nice track of where I walked for the next 10 minutes round the flat :-(
