Used to just be gangs of gnarly bearded roadies and my small womens club going out at the weekend or evenings. A few students cycled. It was more popular back in the day, as in more people were on bikes, but that was because there weren't as many cars, there were local shops, people didn't live so often in distant enclaves etc. What we have now is that cycling has achieved a certain level of 'cool' and so is being picked up by the media slowly but surely (the blog itself being evidence of that).</p> <p>"<em>Gone are the days when cycling was solely the territory of Lycra-clad wiry bods</em>"</p> <p>It never was.
