To be fair, it wasn't pedestrianised. The road was closed to traffic but not cycles and pedestrians wandered over the road. Not the same as pedestrianisation.

Success. Can only hope that other shopkeepers take note and push for more permanent pedestrianisation and space for people...

OT by 100 yards or so, I'd say the improvement to the public realm around St Andrew Sq and N St Andrew St now the tramwork is (nearly) done is marked. If I was a business on George St I'd be wanting some of that too. Ideal opportunity for them to call for George St to become an attractive people-friendly space again.

Not as much of it. The west and east ends were open last year, whereas this year they were half shut off with the pubs and restaurants spilling out. Last year it was just the section in front of the Assembly Rooms that was closed off (as it was this year).

A success!

"Shopping areas outwith George Street saw footfall rise by up to 21 per cent compared with last year, while the hub experienced a 30 per cent jump."

it's referred to as a 'traffic ban' and not 'pedestrianisation'.
Somewhat predictable from the hootsman, probably the same journalists employed by the chipwrapper and aiming at the same consumers.

"is a destination not a thoroughfare – you don’t use it to go anywhere else"

Better put the 'through' bikes on Princes Street then...

Or Queen Street - why does it need five traffic lanes??

"
It is thought the radical changes to George Street [...] will be used as a trial run for a permanent traffic overhaul
"

"
Josh Miller, chairman of the George Street Association, has warmed to the new proposals despite his previous opposition.

He said: “The key is bringing more people into the area and keeping the parking. George Street, from a traffic point of view, is a destination not a thoroughfare – you don’t use it to go anywhere else.

(Well they won't be able to do it future when G St. has the planned two way cycle lane...)
