That kickstarter bell is a thing of beauty and it sounds great but $50 for a bell? I've been known to overspend on knick knacks and purty toys but I couldn't bring myself. Although I do need a bell. And it is nice. And would look good beside the bar tape and little wooden end caps. And it's payday soon and I've been such a good boy cycling to work and everything and not breaking things. And I got rid of that car ... And it is nice.

Darkersider - yes some Fuego kickstands seem to vibrate and have to be silenced with old innertubes. Not a problem now for you! They do work though.

On the bell side though Nazca do fit a nice example. This uses a knurled wheel so the Nazca user can use one 'ding' or several in succession. Tone is nice although item looks plain.

I don't have any extra at moment but.... got around 20 teapot bells as featured on Paper Bicycle. Choose black or silver. 4 pound.

A problem I hand't really considered when switching to the MetaBike: the loss of the 'delightful rattle' from the Fuego's kickstand means that I'm now as silent as a silent thing. Which has spinny spikey bits at buttock height. And has to deal with the centre of Glasgow's pedestrians on the way home every night.

Brass bell on order...

I was using a Brompton bell on the Isle of Wight yesterday and it worked fine for warning the dog walkers etc.

Route has been improved in Newport. The path south of there is still unsealed and then the next section has some tree root issues.

According to the you tube videos, the alloy sounds fine. Not so long sounding as the brass, but a nice round note. The copper one sounded a bit tinny, if that makes any sense...

Crane brass bells are awesome. The 'ding' lasts for almost a minute before decaying completely (a bit like a tuning fork).

They look very pretty. Does it go 'ding' (single note) or does it go 'brrrring' like the ones with a lever?

I find everyone ignores the ping bell on the Brompton. The dutch bells seem to go 'ding dong' like a doorbell, which confuses everyone, but at least makes them look round.

Naturally I went for one of the painted ones (and beginning to wonder if I should have got the Koi one, so might get that and swap the one I have onto my other half's bike).

I have a bell on my commuter bike. Its the more traditional ring ring, type which I prefer to the ting ting single spring bells and I find transmits sound further!

We've had the bell debates on here. I was always in the camp of 'a voice is more friendly'. I have to say, now I've found a bell that doesn't ding at every (any!) pothole or rough surface, I'm totally converted, and couldn't hold a view any more different than that previously held.

The bell I have has a very clear and very loud ding. So has been heard from a good distance away, meaning I'm not scaring anyone out of their skins, and for that personal touch I then simply thank people when I go by.

It's brilliant. Forget every anti-bell post I've ever made!
