5 JULY 2013

NEWS RELEASE No: 15986

Views wanted on improving Glentress Forest’s recreation

Mountain bikers, walkers and the local community are all being urged to give their views on how Forestry Commission Scotland could improve recreation development at Glentress Forest.

Two “drop-in” events are planned to be held at the Glentress café so that the public can give their opinions.

The events are on Friday 12th (5pm – 8.30pm) and Saturday 13th July (9am to 2pm).

The two drop-in days are the last in a series of stakeholder and public feedback sessions to be held, with all the information being used to develop a ‘masterplan’ for the area.

Leona Wilkie of Forestry Commission Scotland is managing the masterplan process. She said:

“The drop-in events are specifically aimed at testing ideas for Glentress Forest and how people would like us to develop it for years to come.

“We’ve had brilliant feedback to date on how people would like to see recreation in the Tweed Valley progress. Now we want to focus purely on Glentress and what it could offer.

“Please come in and speak to us at the Glentress café and tell us what you would like to see happen.”

Glentress is famous for being the flagship 7stanes mountain bike centre, boasting world-class trails. The forest is also very popular with walkers and numerous way-marked routes give stunning scenery.

The long-term goal at Glentress Forest is to move to a more self-supporting status where income streams at the popular woodland break even.
