If true, it's a shame Radio4 News just reported it as "collided with a lorry".

Quite right, chdot. I think I read this same thing in the guardian, and that it was an accident (they defined it as an accident twice, showing great insight or confidence).

It was just a Press Assoc story cut n paste I think. Maybe the R4 content has the same source.

I once tried to get The Guardian to put something in their "style guide" (the one about words not fashions) but they weren't interested. Would've been smarter to make same request of the Press Assoc, I suppose.

Many people not very aware of proper terminology for cycle infra. I'm still trying to get my head around it. I've met several greens lately who - although they cycle - do not want tobe associated as 'cycle lobbyists'. Alison Johnstone, on the other hand, definitely gets it.

This is very sad. It is also, tragically, predictable given the current state of things.

I don't get the impression that the Greens have a clue about cycling. Jenny Jones' comment makes sense given her on-record support for the London Cycle Network, a project similar to Edinburgh's Family Network which would have largely seen cyclists papped onto indirect quiet back streets, leaving the main roads unaltered, if anybody had ever bothered to complete it.

At a Scottish level, I do not feel that Patrick Harvie, for instance, is very interested in cycling. He doesn't seem to talk about it much. The closest I can find is this:

http://blogs.theglaswegian.co.uk/glasgowpolitics/2013/04/patrick-harvie-glasgow-has-long-way-to-go-for-greener-urban-living.html

in which he talks about the need for "cycle lanes". Now, I don't believe for a moment he's advocating the kind of rubbish narrow door zone cycle lanes that incompetent councils up and down the land foist on us, but as far as I'm concerned even the very finest cycle lanes - 2 metres wide and mandatory - are not adequate. Cycle tracks - well, that's something else entirely. Talk to me about cycle tracks, Patrick.

In 2012 Jenny Jones from the Green Party on the London Assembly raised concerns about this route, saying: "Traffic on red routes [is] too high for drivers to tolerate cyclists."

someone from the Green Party actually said this?
