A pothole snuck up on me on a short decent outside stirling on the way to Crieff today. I hit it with a jolt and a bang which made me think I'd just been hit by a car. I managed to stay on but soon felt something was wrong with the back wheel.

Looking at it I couldn't understand why. 3 Spoke were loose but none broken, and for once there was a loose one on the drive side. I was really puzzled. Then suddenly noticed that there something wrong with the rim on the drive side spoke. It had pulled through completely nipple and all.

I trued the wheel properly about 3 weeks ago and also gave them a once over on the bike strip down and re-build last night and had spotted nothing wrong, and had touched up the wheels. So I'm guessing some sort of weakness in the rim/a crack on the inside had developed.

TBH - I'm more upset that I only got in 80km of todays planned 230. The wheel has done at least 5000km+ (probably at least 200km-300km per week since end of Jan)

Anyway. Pretty frustrating. Anyone want a broken Mavic wheel.... It's got a speed hole in the rim now...

Managed to get to Stirling rail station and home. Boo. Tennis.
