Lionfish turned up a bit later on, for his last PY for a bit - hopefully it won't be too indiscreet to wish he and minimoth well on their travels!

Apparently we have to have given Leith Walk a Dutch make-over for their return...

The Moultons separate rather than fold, so they're not as good if you need to ride to a train station then scrunch it up in fifteen seconds and hop on, but they do ride better.

A similar thing exists with the Airnimal brand. They take a few minutes to shrink into hand luggage size, but they ride just like a bike.

gembo I know your right but I want it to be good enough to encourage me especially as it wont we too long and the weather will not be as good. I have herd to mean flimsy excuses for giving up cycling, I dont want to give myself any. Hence I want to get as near to perfect as I can for now and then as you suggest improve it from there. In my professional life I am away saying to people 1 day extra of testing and planing ( well spent) can save a month worth of fixes, maintenance and downtime. Not sure that directly translates to bike but .....

Was it the mk3 Moulton that I tried today. I had always though fold ups were a bit silly, but I stand very much corrected it was very very nice indeed.

THat was me in the red shirt (£28 merino icebreaker from Leckies of Falkirk but u need to be size medium as Mr Leckie bought 1000s of mediums and has sold most of them). Your research has been thorough but as i said it is very rare for us to get our bike selections 100% so no need to beat ourselves up about it. (Can always wait some time then buy another one or modifY)

I had to drill the rivets out of my old Chromoplastic mounts

I do that as a matter of course with SKS, partly because attaching mudguards at seatstay and chainstay bridges using zip ties avoids rusted bolts, and partly because all the rivets corrode like mad in our winter weather.

Nice to see the mk3 Moulton, too.

Dave yes they are the Velo Orange guards, from Freshtripe. They're a bit more than chormoplastics pricewise, but not outrageously so.

Two parts of the fittings are clever and easy to deal with (the single stay, attached by a single bolt, and the R-clamps that attach the stay to the dropout.

The mountings at the fork crown / seatstay boss, on the other hand, were nothing but stress and tears. In reality I think they've been designed with forks for balloon-tyred American randonneur bikes in mind, with a large drop from the brake boss to the tyre and a lot of room between the fork legs. None of the 3 supplied mounting options came close to working, so I had to drill the rivets out of my old Chromoplastic mounts and use them, which involved alsodrilling the fork.
