A flashmob out in Winchburgh would, with the best of intentions, probably be largely ineffective and un-noticed.</p> <p>But then do you move the "target" to somewhere like the parliament or government offices? I've drivern and delivered pretty much everything you could think off excluding <em>some</em> hazardous substances (though I did have a HAZMAT licence for a while).</p> <p>My experience of 8 wheel tipper lorrys was thus:</p> <p>Its a monotinous job, generally they drive between two points picking up and off loading. I was paid by the hour (agency work), but I get the feeling some were paid by the number of loads. There were always a few drivers who were first in and last out, getting more loads than me and others. The job was boring as heck as it was being loaded at one point, then driving along the same route to tipp the load at the other end. I did it for a week and was bored stiff so was happy to have a change on the next job. I imagine the perminant drivers doing this week in, week out get to know the roads and route very well and don't pay as much attention to the road as they could/should.</p> <p>I'm not excusing what may or may not have happened as far as blame, as I know nothing of this sad incident but hope to shed light on what being a tipper driver is like.</p> <p>Perhaps if any investigating officer knew this, they may question the driver differently? I've know the family for many years and they're still all in shock. He was a very active man all his life and cycled at least four times a week, and swam twice weekly. </p> <p>He is still in an induced coma, and will be utterly devasted when he comes out of it.</p> <p>My thoughts are with him and his family.</p> <p>What a fantastic job by the trained nurse who came upon the scene though.
