That was a nice Sunday ride.

About 24-25 miles round trip. Free admission and a omplimentary tea/coffee when we got to Jupiter Artland, an artist/curator talk and half an hour to wonder around. Unfortunately started raining as we were checking out the sculpture park. However nice sunshine for most of the ride itself, if a bit blowy. Good tailwind on the way home.

It was good for me to recce some possible routes to that place, for planning future family trips by bike. Probably canal to Ratho for us though: impractical for today's group ride, which was mostly on roads.

as long as they put the nut directly on the crown of your head at 12mph or less :-)
but anyway congratulations to everyone who got this changed. And I love the idea of the complaints choir. A City Cycling Complaints Choir could have a pretty big repertoire all of its own. (Or - City Cycling Coffee Choir?)

"

Thank you! We're a bit hectic at the moment (a small team and the festival starting next week) so apols if we've been slow in replying, but thanks for raising it. I had probably been overly didactic in the original copy, but as mentioned the cycle tours are a pilot and we'll see how it goes.

We're looking for stewards to help on both tours so if you or any of your members would be interested in helping, then you'd be very welcome. Anyone interested could mail me.

Any further 'complaints' - polite or not! - are very welcome for our Complaints Choir of Edinburgh: http://www.edinburghartfestival.com/commissions/complaintschoir

I got a reply which included -

"

This is the first time we have run cycle tours as part of the festival and it's a bit of a pilot project for us. Following research amongst organised cycle tours (where the stipulation is common), and considering that the tour is open to new participants whose road sense we might not know until the tour, we chose to make it a requisite of joining the tour as part of the pilot. We may review that for future editions of the festival depending on feedback received.

"

I then sent this -

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/bike-blog/2013/mar/04/compulsory-helmets-charity-bike-rides

Seems a bit of 'polite complaining' works!

Well done -

http://www.edinburghartfestival.com

Had no acknowledgement, but just been alerted to a very sensible notice, looks like they have had a rethink..? Now this all makes sense, particularly about cleats.

All riders will be responsible for their own safety. All riders must bring their own bikes and are asked to bring a spare innertube in case of puncture. All bikes must be in a well maintained state. We would prefer riders to wear helmets but this is left to your discretion. Riders are asked to wear flat shoes not cleats for the sake of the galleries' floors!
