I'd say your tyre is much more resilient than the plastic guard and it's the latter which will lose if in a friction fight.

Hum - I have 25s and doing their check with the 4mm allen key I don't think I have clearance at the front under the fork. I can force it thru, but I'm probably compressing the tyre a little to do so.

The Crud is a better mudguard than a raceblade in nearly every respect, beyond lack of clearance - but then it's not designed to have big clearance and the Raceblade "cheats" anyway by not trying to fit itself into areas with limited clearance.

The Crud effectively floats above the wheel thanks to a couple of little brushes that keep it centred. Very clever and remarkably robust.

@klaxon They do, but with the downside that they offer much less clearance than raceblades, such that a bigger tyre - say, 25 rather than 23 - or a ride on a muddy/leafy road can lead to rub. But then, that's just good resistance training ;-)

I'd recommend them. They also have a nifty bit that protects your front mech and feet to a good extent.

Cost aside, do these mount more securely than SKS Raceblades? My raceblades are constantly slipping out of alignment and chafing the wheel or not properly dealing with spray
