Maybury is being considered but apparently there are sufficient "outstanding" locations to see this years budget used up. Fingers crossed for 2015 then.

Stopped in at dig-in bruntsfield this afternoon. Cycle hoops in the area all full. Discussed with manager that it would be an ideal place for some on-road parking. There was an empty car space outside the whole time is as there, with bikes coming and going, despite the rain.

Plenty pavement room for more.

Or even takes some road space 'when' they add the cycle lanes...

+1 to sending suggestions. I wrote to the email address above bemoaning the lack of parking at the cluster of shops on the Junction of Ferry Road / Inverleith Row after having to take my bike into the bank (very obliging the cashiers were too on a rainy muddy day), and Council_Cycle_Guy (not actual title) responded within a day to say that the site was perfect due to an unused pavement build out, but would take a month or two to put up proper stands - so in the mean time they would install a few bike hoops on the parking posts. Said hoops were indeed installed within days, and two months later the proper stands went in.

I've put in a request for some at my son's nursery. There's really nowhere sensible to leave a bike at the moment. Although the nearest suitable post isn't exactly outside.

Another suggestion from me - around the junction of Gifford Park/Buccleuch Street/NMW (on NCN1)

There are a few shops (including places to eat) just about this point, so some parking would be good.

At the moment there's nothing bar the railings at the entrance of NMW.

The sign posts outside the roseburn arms are usually decorated with bikes so hoops would work there and the mini tescos over the road could do with a couple of sheffields too.

Good stuff - that will make quick trips up to Broughton Street much more efficient.

I'd back any suggestions that cycle parking down at the Rodney Street/Broughton Road junction would make a difference as well. There's a nice wee nucleus of shops and bars down there (esp after the opening of Other Place and Cross & Corner), right at an access point to the NEPN. There really should be some bike parking options too.

On the subject of cycle racks, I got the last space on the racks outside the Cameo cinema last night and there were a few people wheeling their bikes around looking for somewhere to chain up to. Surely the Cameo warrants more than 4 Sheffield stands?

"

I thought that it would be good to feedback to you and those on the Forum who contributed yesterday that I have installed 15 Cycle Hoops today.

1 on Morningside Drive @ Heavens Kitchen
1 on Leven Street @ John Saunderson Butchers
5 on Montague Street
3 on Rankeillor Street
5 on Broughton Street @ Curiouser, Narcissus, Smoke Stack, Allan Hair and Kushis.

I have made a note of the other suggested sites and shall look to install some more Cycle Hoops at the end of August, beginning of September.

Some of the suggestions would be better served by cycle racks and so they have been added to my database and shall be looked at separately.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards

St. Andrew Square and Charlotte Square?
+1 for Porty High Street.

Somewhere around the Beach House/Espy section of the Prom as there's only one lamp-post there at the minute which is right next to a bin.

I think there are a few official racks around the Argos end of Fort Kinnaird but have had to use whatever poles or posts or seats were available at other sections.

Nicolson Square, as there aren't many outside Old College and only a couple on Hill Place and the railings aren't a good height and carry a risk of being scraped by/offering obstruction to passing vehicles.

The bottom end of Rodney St, unless EBC have installed some shop-front rails.

The ones on Easter Road are well used. Might be good to see if there's space for more - and along Abbeyhill way.

They seem to work best on narrower shopping streets - e.g. Broughton Street, maybe Constitution Street now work nearly finished, Henderson Street at Sofi's bar/The Vintage?

+1 for Portobello High Street and there is a huge shortage of cycle parking on the prom. Although should probably install something more substantial than hoops there.

Being completely partial here, but I'm not ashamed of it.

Top of Easter Road: there are some already, and well used. More if possible at the top/south end, near London Road, as the shops are busy there.

Montrose Terrace: quite a few new shops and businesses there, and a lot of cyclists use this route east-west so hoops would encourage passing trade.

Cadzow Place: near Eastside Bikes. Currently some railings nearby, but a hoop would be better.

Portobello: lots of cyclists go there or pass through. Some hoops on the High Street would be handy for shops. There is some bike parking on the Prom but folk (including myself) seem to prefer railings. Don't know how feasible hoops would be there but at least they would be 'official'.

Leith Walk: lots of places here. This may be addressed by the redevelopment plans, but some hoops would be useful by the shops on the northern section of Elm Row, and outside shops, banks, etc. on the Walk north of the Brunswick Road/MacDonald Road junction.

Broughton Street: lots of shops, cafes, etc. here. Most folk lock to railings currently. A hoop in the vicinty of Real Foods perhaps?

Perhaps they could just match supply to demand. This is the top of the high street.
