"I don't think they can claim to have completed the Leith Links - Portobello route either."

Oh yes they can! -

The Mela is working with City of Edinburgh Council to promote healthier alternatives like cycling and walking to the festival, and Route 10, the newly-opened Portobello to Leith cycle route, seems like the perfect place to start!

I don't think they can claim to have completed the Leith Links - Portobello route either.

The new sections are certainly to a good standard (except on the Seafield Street crossing, see threads passim). However the path over the railway bridge, and from there to the western edge of the Prom, is bumpy, too narrow, and littered with obstacles. Also the route between the western part of the prom and the central Prom is through a car park, normally chock full of vehicles, several of which are reversing in or out at any given time. Not terribly family friendly!

Sort these bits out and they can claim the route is complete.

I don't know whether to be disappointed that the minutes from the last meeting don't show Lesley Hinds' verbal commitment to 'sort' Gogar Station Road albeit in the next financial year.

Maybe as it wasn't official agenda'd business it was never going to get minuted.

As it happens they have done some patching to date - which is great news! but the remainder (including the worse bits) have now been put off to next year. :(

I'm taking the roads officer up on his offer to meet me on site to understand the plans for it.

"I don't remember the QBC being generally very well received - maybe I'm not mixing with the right people?"

No - you're just not reading the right press releases -

(at the risk of going OT on my own thread) MOUND to KB? really? they think that Forest Road, which is permanently blocked with taxis and white vans on both sides is part of a 'quality' anything?

George IV is just as bad, but at least wide enough that you can cycle down the centre lanes, since the 'bus' lanes require you to weave in and out of the vans.

From the 5% Budget commitment to cycling document:

Of particular note are the completion of both the on-road cycle improvements from the Mound to King’s Buildings and the Leith Links – Portobello Promenade ‘family network’ cycle route. These projects have generally been very well received. However, there were some criticisms of the Mound to Kings Buildings route and these comments will be used to improve delivery of cycling investment going forward.

I don't remember the QBC being generally very well received - maybe I'm not mixing with the right people?

For those who are interested in such things, there's a big bundle of docs to wade through on the Council website including things like the ATAP 2 year review, sunday parking, the 20mph zone etc
