There were few pavements; mostly people just walked on the road. They walked on the same side as the traffic, rather than on the other side as we're taught to do here; so the walkers were part of the traffic. The little country roads weren't so bad but the main roads were terrifying, as you can imagine.</p> <p>I count myself lucky that I live in a part of the world where we have proper segregated walking lanes on our roads.</p> <p>Mostly the walkers were either tourists or people too poor to have some other form of transport.
