<description>&#60;p&#62;This is roughly how it actually is in the area where I was on holiday a couple of years ago (in Goa). There were few pavements; mostly people just walked on the road. They walked on the same side as the traffic, rather than on the other side as we're taught to do here; so the walkers were part of the traffic. The little country roads weren't so bad but the main roads were terrifying, as you can imagine.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I count myself lucky that I live in a part of the world where we have proper segregated walking lanes on our roads.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Mostly the walkers were either tourists or people too poor to have some other form of transport. I can't say I saw many sporty-looking walking helmets mind :)
