It costs a huge amount, is not particularly effective at preventing recidivism, and the damage to the person's personal life, job etc. often seems to be unfairly prolonged. I'd much rather that the criminal was made to do useful things like community service (cleaning up graffiti, picking litters on bike paths, using their skills for the benefit of underprivileged kids. She has at least been jailed for a few months but no mention of a ban!
