The new road layout is going to bypass the Cockatoo completely (leaving them with only tractors as passing trade). The new single track road along the route of the A6106 will hopefully just be stopped up with bollards at Sheriffhall still allowing its use by cyclists.

@wangi I didn't know that. I sometimes use that route to get to Musselburgh/Portobello. And at shopping time, it's a quite busy road.

Many may be unaware - the Borders Railway will result in the closure of Millerhill Rd A6106 at Sheriffhall. This will be permanent.

Note the closures around the Sheriffhall Roundabout

http://www.bordersrailway.co.uk/news/temporary-carriageway-to-open-on-city-bypass-for-borders-railway.aspx

Although these obviously affect the A720 (don't cycle there!), there may be knock on effects.

Also the Salters Road twixt Dalkeith and Whitecraig has been closed for resurfacing. Hopefully it will be open next week.

The road from Dalkeith to Sheriffhall will be closed for quite some time yet with the diversion through Lugton (or along the path).
