Rode the Tour Ride 50 miler on Saturday, fabulous day out. Sunny but cool with light winds, perfect conditions. After rain the previous day the roads had mostly dried so no problems there. The route (an anti-clockwise loop from Drumlanrig Castle via Dumfries and back through the Forest of Ae) was mostly very pleasant, had to use the A701 and A76 at times. Eldest daughter was not looking forward to the climb up through the forest to Loch Ettrick but was overjoyed with her overall time as I don't think she'd done quite that distance or amount of climbing before. My legs felt amazingly good after not feeling so good the previous weekend!

Stayed for the Stage 1 finish the next day, and despite the forecast was sunny with showers after a wet start. Wondered if the forecast had kept people away as car parks did not seem quite as full as perhaps the estate was preparing for.

I had remarked the day before that the climb up to the finishing straight might just provide a sting for the sprinters (it did for us!), maybe it did, though it seems certainly Cavendish got boxed in and lost momentum.

Great weekend overall, hope they do it again next year (we also did last year's).

I'll be at Peebles and maybe somewhere else on the route later that day, and on Honister the next day. Will be driving, but bike in the car for the ride to Honister (I hope).

I'm already down for the Tour Ride 50-miler on the Saturday with eldest daughter (driving down after picking her up in Dundee Friday eve). Will be staying for the finish of Stage 1 on Sunday. If anyone else is in the area, happy to meet up.

I'm riding the Dave Harris Memorial Audax that day, though we'll probably see the peleton as we overtake them not! :o)

Anyone interested in a ride down to see the Tour of Britain on Sunday - see http://www.tourofbritain.co.uk/stages/stage1/scotland_route.php#.Uimk6DcgLzs

It's a good opportunity to stare at folk on bikes legitimately.

The first hill is down by Hawick and on the A7 so may take a bit of getting down to in time. The alternative is to go to see the start. The start from Peebles is at 10.30am so a very early start would be required.

I am open to ideas.
