For example cyclist casualties within 500m of the school"</p> <p>Again unlikely to be mostly child casualties and gives no 'context' - volume of traffic, numbers of cyclists. </p> <p>The basic 'finding' is that there is a lot of danger due to motor vehicles - which will be related to number and speed and (probably) individual bits of road layout/facilities. </p> <p>I wonder if there are stats for casualties due to 'couldn't be bothered to wait (any longer) for Green Man'.</p> <p>CEC, to its credit, is pressing on with more 20mph zones. </p> <p>This is not a wilful 'war on motorists'. There is strong support - as shown by comments sent in on the South Side "pilot". The common factor there is surely proximity to the A900/Leith Walk?</p> <p>One can analyse other casualty rates too. For example cyclist casualties within 500m of the school may give an indication of how advisable it is to do the "school run" as a parent by bicycle. The highest numbers of cyclist casualties are:</p> <p>Preston Street Primary (54)<br /> Regius Christian School (52)<br /> Sciennes Primary (35)<br /> Dalry Primary (33)<br /> Royal Blind School (25)</p> <p>I was surprised by Sciennes I must admit. Maybe that's a function of location in a different way, in that there are so many cyclists (especially student cyclists) around Marchmont/Sciennes that they are involved in more collisions?
