Went along Broomhouse path to HG in the afternoon and despite the howling wind pushing me back the whole way it was pleasantly warm in the sun. Great fun on the way back - barely had to pedal at all.</p> <p>At 7pm I was heading uptown along the canal and it was like the season had changed in a few hours. Dull with a biting, icy wind that cut right through the thin jersey and armwarmers. Thank god for good gloves - I can cope with pretty much anything as long as my hands aren't going numb and freezing to the bars.</p> <p>Came back around 9pm and it was even colder. Forecast said around 7C, I think with the headwind chill it must have been around freezing. Nice work if you can get it...</p> <p>One of the perks of the job was that he was able to access a seemingly endless supply of these brilliant gloves, ultra thin things but totally wind proof. I try to say in shorts as long as possible. Will be time enough after the equinox, then the clocks, then we are talking bib 3/4. I have amazing endura bib longs that are too warm, also waterproof. Hardly ever used them. Best buy was a pair of Gore brand. They remain good after several winters. I wore a winter jacket over a summer SS jersey with shorts and long-fingered gloves. The cold got through the gloves so may have to dig out the winter pair.
