Kim Road deaths are too common to be News :-(

People only get worked up when an accident actually closes a road. Sad because one person's traffic delay is another person's tragedy.

All in all it's easily rationalised - a 'small price' to pay for the convenience of getting places. Collateral damage.

The make of the car in an accident is always mentioned... is there a reason for that? Is it just a way of 'adding detail' to an accident. Or is it a 'you may know this person' kind of idea? (Casualties are unnamed till next of kin etc) Just curious. Could start a new thread on that.

20 years ago the Herald used to do a monthly round up of road deaths.

You can find out some info here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8401344.stm

For individual incidents you get the date and something like this:

Fatalities: 1
Pedestrian: woman, aged 60
Vehicles involved: 1
1 Lorry (over 7.5 tonnes)

There is an odd irrationality in the law when it comes to speeding. It seems that defences not normally open to the accused are available. What's that nonsense about having to make speed cameras clearly visible?

The press also seem to get steamed up about people getting caught speeding even though driving causes far more deaths than murderers (immigrants, paedophiles ....) etc

It seems to be on a technicality that the speed camera user wan't following correct procedure - therefore all results are deemed invalid.
Presumably Mr Montgomerie has few scruples.

It was 'Mr Loophole' that got him off. He does seem to be good at this.

What utter stupidity, so a speed camera measuring hundreds of cars a day should immediately be retired since it also measures the speed of people not speeding.

.... because other people weren't speeding.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10327666

Colin Montgomerie has history speeding (9 points on his licence already); gets caught doing 37 in a 30 zone; gets banned; then gets that ban overturned because the person using the speedgun also pointed it at people who weren’t speeding???? Seriously, logic bypass???

I do hope the next time there's a major murder case the police don't indiscriminately go through their DNA profiles and only target those who they really really really think might have done it...
