One thing that won't boot a tyre cut is a rubber inner-tube patch. The plastic Park(?) self-adhesive ones will though.

Ttying to find a relevant place to post this - This seemed like it might be useful

I was in the TriCentre this morning and they have some excess (accidental) stock of 28mm Gatorskins. (rigid walls)

They're selling them for £20 (down from 29.99) available in store only. They've got 4 of them. Thought someone might be interested.

You can use all kinds of stuff, crisp or sweet packets for instance.

I once rode over 100km with my tyre held together by (rapidly dwindling) supply of zip ties, from south of Kielder up to the brevet finish in Galashiels. Fortunately it was a disc braked bike!

(The secret seemed to be to have the zip tie just tight enough that it 'cut' into the inflated tyre a little, so it was barely touching the road whilst riding along. I left the tails on so I would be alerted by the absence of tick-tick-ticking to the impending explosion of my one remaining inner tube...)

Darn, should have thought of that after my double blow-out a couple of weeks ago :-( Oh well, at least I can now recycle the damaged tyre!

a piece of old tyre with the beading cut out

I always carry a few rectangles of this in different widths/lengths when I'm riding an audax. Handy way of re-using your old tyres.

Apparently a £10 note, folded, also works well as a boot as the fibres are fairly strong and there are no sharp edges.

Other denominations are available. Plastic or a piece of old tyre with the beading cut out are even better.

I always carry a piece of the plastic sheet that makes up a toothpaste tube, to use as a tyre boot.

But yes - I can risk it on the way home as I have the new tyre. It's the rear too, so unlikely to wipeout if it blows at speed.

Get a piece of card or something to put inside the tyre wall and hold in your (tyre's) bulge for the ride home.

I got that sage advice after riding from Barton to Dalmeny with every turn of the wheel rubbing the bulge on the frame. Finally blew completely but managed to get within walking distance of the train to get across the bridge.

EDIT: My brain just engaged!?! Getting the tyre off to put some card in, might as well change the tyre. But useful tip for whenst problem occurs in the line of duty.

Spooky. Just back - got the Gatorskins from VE.

A little more than on-line. But I can get it put on tonight. Feeling a little nervous riding about today.

700 x 25 too, just to be trendy.

+1 for Gatorskins from Velo Ecosse, I got a pair from there for vaguely more than I would have got them online recently.

He he.

I'm sure they all have the correct size tyre - but I do like to ponder about the suppleness of the carcass VS the puncture protections VS the colour....

I can't think you'll have difficulty getting a tyre in that size.

Velo Eccosse and EBC stock Continentals. I'm not sure what Evans do.

Washed bike yesterday to discover a cut and bulge in the sidewall.

Now, I'd normally get tyres online as you can get lots of discounts, but I need it for tonight.

Evans, EBC, Velo Ecosse, etc are all nearby. Can you recommend one with a good range of 700c 23-25 to pick from?
