A simple change to the law which nationalises value uplift from planning permission could quickly replace the developers contributions.

A second change to nationalise undeveloped land a few years after permission to build is granted would also help speed things up.

One for the fantasy infrastructure project thread perhaps.

You can walk up the Almond walkway as far as the airport without "crossing" a road. There are some bits where you need to walk on a road/carpark but they don't have significant traffic.

All that is then needed is to put a path through the airport to the gateway bridge, close gogar station road, route through Ricarton to the donkey path. Bridges over the A70, A71, etc...

The suggestion that planning laws prioritise animals over people is laughable at best.

Ha ha - you can't even leave the Cramond promenade without crossing a road!

This is simple puffery for property developers with interests in west Edinburgh. Unsurprisingly written by a senior partner at Charlotte Street Partners (a PR firm), whose client list no doubt includes said developers.

“

However, as this agreement had not been reached by the time Edinburgh’s City Plan 2030 came into effect, which replaced the LDP, the development’s contributions for education had to be recalculated.

And under the City Deal, the development is required to pay just £139,544 towards education, and £10,433 towards transport infrastructure.

Officers have said that the development is in compliance with the City Deal 2030, as it was with the prior Local Development Plan.

“

Both sites sit on green belt land protected from most forms of development – and it will come as no surprise to applicants that this is a huge and unlikely hurdle to clear.

But they are hoping councillors will give significant weight to housing shortages in the city, and that this will trump concerns about encroaching on to the green belt.

That was the Captain's Cabin (then the Marmion, then Tescos). Also 'affectionately' called the Stabbin' Cabin. It's main claim to fame was someone being murdered with a shotgun outside it.

@gembo: There is a small group of retail premises at the Burdiehouse Road exit from the estate. The first one to open as a business was a travel agent - exactly what you need within an easy 5-10 minute walk from your home. It took quite a while before a proper convenience store opened there.

I'm pretty sure The Captain's Rest became a Tesco a few years ago (unless I'm thinking of the wrong pub).

West Town - will the 2450 affordable homes be the ones next to railway?

Frogston nice new school with houses built around it. Nico shops or pubs etc. But The Captains Rest is just down the road in Gracemount. Or is it a Tesco’s now.??

Very possible that my experiences weren't representative, but everyone seemed to insist on driving round Auchnacarry Street to drop off as close to the door as possible. If half of those people were willing to walk 50m further, there'd be far fewer problems.

Absolutely - this has been my observation when cycling through (as an opportunity to avoid Kaimes crossroads when headed to Shops / Leisure at Straiton, this estate is a wonderful cut-through (Greenwell Wynd) to Old Burdiehouse Rd and the subsequent shared pavement sections (of which the west side has one less road crossing to make at the bypass, but no signalised crossings at all) that lead up there.

Perhaps Auchnacarry needs a bollard at one end...

I wouldn't want to live there without a car. For one thing, trying to get your kids up to the wide variety of classes at Oriam by bike without any meaningful infra and an extra 7000 cars on the road (plus even more than that as the chicken farm area is also to be developed)

It's nice in theory...

“Planning officers told the meeting the town’s streets will be “low parking and low traffic””

And I have a bridge to sell them.

Well, they started it…
