Well I did have to do that too. And up the hill, but the joy of downhill wind behind this morning was superb

Spare a thought for those of us heading home straight into it!

Possibly because it was very warm wind?

Must confess that I had a couple of surprises on the first few canal bridges on my way home (heading east along the towpath). People seemed to appear out of nowhere and it seemed to be much more reactive than it normally is.

I usually judge my speed by the effort I'm putting in, and it took me a little while to realise that the wind (while not obvious in the way a strong westerly usually is) was pushing me along at a fair few miles an hour quicker than normal. I was thus approaching every bend and blind bridge quicker than usual or sensible.

I started using my GPS speedo a bit more, slowed down to my normal pace (which felt very easy today) and amazingly all the surprises and reactive braking disappeared. It was odd, because normally I can tell it's windy and make allowances, but for some reason today the wind wasn't visible.

cycling into Edinburgh from Balerno was a blast today. Quite bit of road hogging by us cyclists as we were travelling faster than the cars and in a fair bit if chain gang

Had nice chat with young Irish guy who is into the Balerno hydro scheme, back on the bike after ten week lay off due to broken hands, ouch.
