"Send the manager of Sainsbury's Craigleith a copy of all our Tesco receipts?"

Might make the point!

Certainly there have been various rumblings on here about the cycle access into that 'retail park' and a certain amount of buck passing as various bits seem to be owned/managed by different companies.

Maybe needs a co-ordinated campaign...

Though of course if people have been put off from going there and found alternatives, might be too late!

I guess it's not easy for them to see the bottom line.

We used to do all our shopping with Sainsbury's (our biggest single monthly expense, including the flat).

Now we've moved the only real option is Tesco. I could use the Sainsbury's at Craigleith for our big shops since I pass it twice a day, but access from NEPN is farcical, so I don't.

Send the manager of Sainsbury's Craigleith a copy of all our Tesco receipts?

@Chdot from Waitrose with all its advertising retoric about being somewhat more greener and local/customer-conscious than its competitors its also rather dissapointing. It's the sort of thing one would expect of ASDA. Maybe if that is pointed out to them there will be some "progress"?

The Longstone Sainsbury's was a pleasant surprise.

Loads of racks, under cover, well lit, right by the door.

The nearest thing to a gripe is that they're Sheffields rather than Edinburghs.

It seems that Waitrose is being economical with the truth (or worse). They apparently agreed that the council would remove the wheel benders and replace with better racks.

Waitrose then decided to use the space for something else and blamed the council for not replacing the racks!

Further discussions were held and another site suggested which CEC decided was unsuitable. A 'compromise' seems to have been reached and racks may appear in next few weeks.

Meanwhile in Morningside - after 'customer pressure' (aka fuss from CCE members) the local manager agreed to add more racks and actually asked CEC for advice on possibilities, but still no more.

Somehow this sort of thing is what 'we' expect/experience at the bigger supermarkets, but it's disappointing to find little w is as bad as the others when it comes to the simple things.

Good for you. Let us know how you get on.

Waitrose has been saying "very soon" for months and months.

Here's a list of what Waitrose has done for its cycling customers in Edinburgh:

1. It's destroyed the cycle parking at its Comely Bank branch.

Yes, Waitrose told me a few days ago that it's not their responsibility and that it's up to the council to reinstall cycle racks there, and that they were expecting it to happen "very soon". Not at all sure I believe that, especially given that the space has been taken up with a park bench. I'll hassle them a bit more in a week or two.

Wasn't somebody complaining about the lack of cycle parking at a Sainsburys? And weren't Sainsburys saying it was the Council's problem? Couldn't whoever it was tell the council that some bike racks are needed wherever-it-was?

Because sometimes it's nice to applaud good service.

I emailed The CEC Cycling Team this morning to whinge about the lack of cycle parking in Goldenacre (the shops on the junction between Inverleith Row and Ferry Road), as whilst visiting yesterday there was literally nowhere to secure the bike with a D-lock; no narrow posts, no signs, and especially no bike racks. They came back to me this afternoon with the following:

"This is indeed an excellent location for cycle parking. I shall visit this area shortly to consider the best location(s) for some new cycle racks.

We are currently working through a database of requests for cycle parking and so are trying to install between 20 and 30 racks per month. I have already prioritised installations for October and November and so would hope to include this location in Decembers installations.

I realise that this is some time away and so shall, in the mean time, install 3 Cyclehoops here, 1 at the bakers and 2 on the other side of the road. I had intended installing some other Cyclehoops tomorrow and so shall install these at the same time.

Please feel free to advise of any other locations you feel could benefit from improved cycle parking and I shall try to include in the future."

So that's a YES to a bike rack, and while you're waiting on it being installed, have three bike hoops to keep you going!
