Sorry, I assumed (wrongly?) that the OP was from Glasgow (west coast?) and would be cycling up the Canal to Falkirk.

Is so then just hop over the new KK bridge and up to Yetts etc.. avoiding the A977 amap.

Aye, but the most direct option involves ruddy great hills...

You guys are seriously suggesting Falkirk to Perth via the Tak ma Doon road? It's not exactly direct!

'Tak Ma Doon' route seconded. Also most of the road between Kinbuck and Braco is currently closed to motor vehicles (cyclists pedestrians only) due to bridge works near Kinbuck, so it is great for cycling!

Here you go:

google walking map Falkirk to Perth avoiding most of the horid A977!

Falkirk
New Kinkardine Bridge
Clackmannan
Dollar (via short section of A977)
Yetts o Muchart
Dunning
Perth.

Nice quiet roads.

Here is an alternative if you were riding out along the Canal:

http://goo.gl/maps/6ZaXs

From Kilsyth
Tak Ma Doon Road to Stirling
Dunblane
Kinbuck
Braco
Achterarder
Dunning
Perth.

I would say that the Dunning route is maybe better on the way back: steepish climb from Dunning followed by a nice long descent. Hell of a climb doing that route on the way out to Perth though. If it were me I'd head through Dollar towards Glen Devon on the A823 as you suggest, at least on the way to Perth. A bit longer but less taxing.

Shorter to head north to Dunning from Yetts o Muckhart on the B934 although more climbing. 316m summit compared to 269m in Glen Eagles.

36.5 miles each way.

people, I know i could check out maps etc , but thought i would ask some others first. Fancy heading to Perth for the Scottish kayak, and canoe show, paddle 2013. Then i thought.........sod the car, take the bike !Straight of I thought, falkirk, over the kincardine bridge,(clackmanan)up to dollar, ish, up over glen eagles, then possthrough auchterarder, and along what was the old A9 down into perth. Does thgis sound like a doable, or have i missed something else obvious ?like a cycle track i dont know about !If the weathers pants, i might just train up and bike back home.
