A mink wearing a stoat, now that would be an interesting sight.

At least the mink aren't vermin in ermine. They're found 400 miles further south but occasionally show up round Holyrood.

woozles are very confusual

I was looking at boys bike (almost full size) in Toys R Us today - £85. Looked OK. Still working on No 1 son to convince him that a new shiny bike might not be so good as an upgraded old bike, he didn't reject this out of hand. The ones in Toys Are Us looked cheap and were cheap. The ones in Halfords looked cheap but were dear.

Tricky as he might just be big enough for an adult bike with the seat at its lowest.

It had the sun behind it and was a bit of a distance away so I couldn't see whether it had a black tip to its tail. And it's impossible to say if it was smaller than a stoat without a stoat to compare it to. And even then they might be a big stoat and a small stoat, or a big weasel and a small stoat. So we'll never know. :'-(

would the weasel also be a wee bit smaller? (saw both in Norfolk recently - the stoat was a stoatir with sandy fur and trademark black tail) the weasel was wee-er with russet fur. Both bouncing across the road in front of car. NEither jumping on the neck of the much bigger rabbit and hanging on until peter is no more.

If it had a black tip to the tail it was a stoat (Mustela erminea), if not then it was a weasel (Mustela nivalis).

Given the otter population on the WoL and UC I would think the mink sightings are causals rather than a resident population. At this time of year the young disperse and can cover large distances in search of suitable territories.
