To my knowledge there was no cycle infrastructure in the town whatsoever. But most of the roads were wide and quiet, and the it had a good sea-front promenade to go along (puts Portobello to shame!).</p> <p>Apart from the very busiest parts of the town centres, the whole of the Irvine to Ayr stretch was very cycleable, and looking at it on a map now, very compact.
