Doubt if it will keep up with heavy rain though.

I think the response is "It doesn't." I took a chance on my ride to the Gyle today, and the water nearly drowned my feet as I carefully made my way through the underpass on the Brompton.

On my return journey, I opted to take my bike through the overbridge of the railway station, as did the cyclist behind me. For what it's worth, I've reported it to Clarence. There's also currently a great deal of undrained water, in the channel in chdot's picture above.

I believe the correct turn of phrase is that they are "pissing in the wind"

Looks like they are using a pump to try to drain the ditch. Doubt if it will keep up with heavy rain though.

No need to report, Council (and tie) are well aware of the problem...

Now, if it was a core car route.

I remember try to float through on pallets before with my jalopy; bit like crossing the Yangtze on a ferry in my old colonial days! It didn't work as the inflated pigskins burst on the broken Buckie bottles in the underpass!
Report it to Clarence, and put your head in the mouth of the Lion...

Yikes
I used to go through there when I worked at EP. Nasty. Has someone reported this on fix my street?
Yes, 3 years ago... FFS
Can I nab the photo and resubmit it?

Photo Duncan Smith

Before the Station was built this cut-through was full of mud, water and pallets as, even before EP had so many offices, it was a popular 'desire line'.

Now (some days) it looks like this again.

The simple answer is that the drainage is inadequate. The solution is not yet finalised.

It seems that the recent/current tram work might have contributed to the problem as it has taken away some of the area where water used to lie until it soaked away or evaporated.

In the short term, pumping is likely to be required.

Duncan says on Flickr "according to cyclist colleagues who could use this route, is that you can't rely on it being clear, so they avoid it."

At least cyclists can use the lifts in the station, but...
