Good call. I've been meaning to download a newer version. As standard, I think it's limited to 90 degrees but it looks like there's a suitable rotate plug-in. I shall investigate, cheers :-)

VirtualDub is great but not super easy to learn like Windows movie maker. It has far, far more advanced options though, and there's a plugin available for anything you can possibly imagine.

Still open to other suggestions although I've finally made some progress in Adobe Premiere. Even for someone pretty fluent in Photoshop, Premiere is less than intuitive and way overpowered for making Youtube clips!

But at least I have found how to rotate a video :-)

One problem I've read with that is that it doesn't do the arbitrary rotation, only 90 degrees. Right now, I need about 45 degrees!

I did read a workaround using VLC but while I could get the video to rotate, I couldn't get the file to save correctly.

Windows Movie Maker works just fine for me. Fairly intuitive point / click interface. Plenty of options for captions, cross-fades, basic effects. Exports to formats fit for youtube.

I've been venturing into uploading videos for the first time over the last couple of days and was underwhelmed by the editing options on Youtube itself. I've got plenty of video editing software but not much of it has been re-installed since I last spring-cleaned my PCs.

I mostly use software for creating DVDs and Blu-Rays.

So, what software to each of you use to edit videos before uploading? Features like "pause" (which I notice has been removed from Youtube) and various captioning and music options would be handy.

Since I have plenty software for other video editing, I'm mostly interested in free options if possible, especially anything that will allow arbitrary rotation rather than just 90 degree increments as I have videos where the camera wasn't as well-aligned as I thought!

Thanks.
