I thought it was 'warm' today too! It was 5°C outside at commutetime. At 30mph the wind chill on my face was a wee bit nippy though.

Warm this morning! Was 4 degrees when I left. I was regretting having a full base layer 5 miles into the commute and I could have gone down to mitts.

@amir I meant me. It wasn't me, but I was out in my shorts this morning. Managed most of last winter without long legs - think my shortish, high intensity commute & hairy legs keeps me warm enough, as long as I have enough layers on top.

Brrrr. Got my big coat out this morning. Need to track down the warm hat and gloves.
I'll continue to cycle in a skirt (and tights) through the winter (really cold weather brings out a pair of socks that I take off when I get to the office). That's just for a few minutes Bromptoning though. Longs for the big bike (though that may be Ron Hills over shorts if my proper longs are in the wash...)

It's a good idea to protect knees from the cold - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knee_arthritis
It's a vulnerable joint with little protection from the elements.

I tend to think about it below 10 degrees and definitely below 6. This may be on the low side for some but the rest of my legs warm up to much above say 10 degrees.

@DaveC we are embargoed from such practicalities. Some genius somewhere thought it would be an efficiency if our contract mail room staff (who are employed to recieve, sort, process mail) didn't have to deal with personal deliveries, rather our salaried staff have to waste their time and effort either staying at home to recieve parcels that never arrive so they waste time and effort locating "Edinburgh" depots in Livingston or Bathgate trying to get their parcels.

@Kaputnik - when buying my Chameleon, I flatly told Spa Cycles they were /not/ to send it via CityLink - they are the most unreliable, and unhelpful bunch I've ever dealt with (and last time I looked, Livingston wasn't part of Edinburgh...)

If stupid "you weren't in" (I was) and "we left a card, twice" [no you didn't] Citylink couriers hadn't decided to return my drum-brake hub to the supplier my winterbike plans would be further advanced.

Also found that bars with a cable-groove in them specifically for running the cable from a bar-end shifter are completely useless as the groove prevents the insertion of the bar-end shifter expansion bolt into the bars, so they can't actually be used with bar-end shifters. The moral of the story is to by non-bar-end-shifter-specific bars if you want to use a bar-end shifter.
