"Also worth giving a shout to cyclescape, which is from the same people as cyclestreets."

I'm still waiting for it to get a bit easier to use.

Also worth giving a shout to cyclescape, which is from the same people as cyclestreets.

Not quite what's descriobed here, but it's designed as a way to record cycling issue.

For example:

@algo, thanks for those links. CycleStreets has the routes and could, in theory, have the ZeeMaps conflict points added. That would depend on CycleStreets implementing the idea. As you say wingpig, zoomed out you would get an impression of the area.

Yeah, great idea. +1 for GoogleMaps. They allow you to create collaborative maps with customized icons and layers that you can turn on and off. Of course it is all GoogleMapp'd as well so directions, GPS and stuff is all built in.

Definitely worth doing - probably Google-map-based so that untrained people can easily add lines-to-represent-routes-through-junctions with their comments. A high-level zoomed-out view would then show either lots of red or lots of green on particularly fraught/nice junctions/routes, so only people needing to definitely go through a particularly bad point would need to investigate at the individual-comment level.

There's also the Arellcat/CCE good/bad infrastructure map.

I think its a great idea, I'm just thinking how best to see it. A layer for an existing map would be pretty cool. If you were to use a routing software to work out your route then overlay this tricky junctions advice as an aid. Big orange/red icons at points where it could be tricky/dangerous, Haymarket, top of Morrison St, even proposed diversions from local experts.

Either Google or OSM with the caveate I know nothing about this technology beyond having seen it done before...

Hello,

not sure if it's possible to exploit this, but there was a thread started on a related note about possible conflict spots here:

https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=501320&x=-3.188267&y=55.953252&z=4&add=1

described in this thread:

http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=9490

I wondered if starting a new map on that site might be a place to start. Seems like a good idea to me...

Following on from the rubbish driving and cycling thread I wonder if this would be helpful - a site which offers local advice to beginners or experienced cyclists who are visiting an area for the first time. For example I could describe some useful cut-throughs and dangerous junctions here in Musselburgh. I would have welcomed similar advice a couple of weeks ago when I cycled down to Leith. Would a map be the right format? Or a link to CycleStreets? Or does this already exist?

It also has to be a lot more interesting to work on than anything else I'm doing this week.
