<description>&#60;p&#62;I think ordinaries could be quite efficient as the transmission was very simple. My sister had a late 19th century edition of Britannica and speeds listed were quite respetcable. The problem came with hitting bumps in the road when your centre of mass was high above the front wheel.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;And there is sort of a rule about making bicycles more efficient, it's called the UCI.
