The Council’s project team has forecast that the service will be up and running for passengers by May 2014, two months earlier than the original summer 2014 target.

Original target, my, er, ahem. This section was meant to be running in February 2011 !

"Anyone know the individuals...?"

No, but Tony Depledge is a board member of the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company, the umbrella company in charge of Translink who run the majority of buses and trains in Northern Ireland. That doesn't particularly enthuse me as Translink Metro (the Belfast bus service)isn't half the company Lothian Buses is. I hope Mr Depledge doesn't have much say in the punctuality or driving skills near cyclists of Metro's drivers.

It would be disastrous I think if TfE got charge of cycling - at least with the current arrangements one can hound the councillors in person and get (some) things done. TfE could just turn its corporate cheeks, knowing that they're not up for re-election any time soon.

"Anyone know the individuals and their views on cycling or, more importantly, reducing the excessive public space given over to the private car?"

Well it would be easy to think that was an irrelevant question - after all it's just a board that will have its work cut out making sure a profitable bus company earns enough to prop up a bit of tram line.

BUT (from link above) -

“We’re already integrating ticketing, timetables and customer services to make journeys easier but there’s much more opportunity ahead to develop wider transport policy in a way that benefits everyone who wants to get around the city, whether they use bus, tram, bike or go on foot.”

Even with four councillors on board it's hard to see how/why TfE will do - or even complement - the work of CEC and its Transport (etc) Committee.

Well, the board members of TfE (as it will no doubt be abbreviated to) have been announced: Linky here
