What we eventually got. She seems happy with them and so far they've worked well (only too small on a day when cross country running coincided with swim lessons, requiring an extra bag)

eBay tax controversy story.

PayPal of course an eBay subsidiary, has a Luxembourg banking licence. Turn to Gumtree perhaps? Just found out it's an eBay company too!

So, you can't win. Unless you buy everything from your LBS. But then most bike stuff made in China, and clothing, bags probably Malaysia, Bangladesh, etc. to keep costs down, even if parent company (notional 'manufacturer'/brand) domiciled in UK/EU.

(Oh and if you like listening to your iPod while cycling, maybe you bought your tracks on iTunes? Ethical right? You pay the artist. But iTunes EU is based where for tax purposes? Have a guess. No, don't because Luxembourg is very happy to tell the world about its success at attracting IT companies).

Oh and have you ever drunk Lucozade or watched Channel 5? Parent companies are tax dodgers too, it seems.

A very disreputable man i met smoking an electric cigarette up the street from the old GPO told me they do to pay any rent either at thenWaverely Bridge or Gate anyway the post office. They have two companies in there. Put this to my friend who works for them saving money on their internal systems, he felt this was not accurate.

On panniers, go for proper ortliebs or vaude but get her front rollers and put them on the back. Big spend but last a long time?

Ah, okay you mean these?

I don't know for sure, but these look as though they just sit on the rack. Maybe a 'rat trap' keeps them in place? Can't see from photo but they may have straps/velcro to hold them 'invisibly' to rack top and sides...

Available from Dutchie.

Amazon is cheaper because they don't pay any tax!

Maybe also because they received multi-million pound subsidies from the Welsh and Scottish governments to build new 'fulfillment centres'? New Scottish one is at Halbeath I think, you know where the notorious Hyundai factory was built just over a decade ago with taxpayers' cash and never opened...

Anyway when I bought the Mara panniers I got them on Amazon Marketplace, ie. using the web site, but delivered by some third party retailer who it appears only sells there (no eBay presence, own web site but no web shop). So not direct from Amazon EU SRL (Luxembourg) itself... though they get a cut I presume, just as eBay Europe/PayPal EU (both Luxembourg domiciled IIRC) do if you buy there.

As crowriver mentioned, you generally leave the bags on the bike. Kirst, formerly of this parish, had some lovely single bags with flower patterns. Not sure if they were Basil or not, but they had nice big carry handles.

There are different rosa panniers. I meant the rosa double, of which there seem to be two slightly different versions. The rosa shopper, is as you say a second.

Amazon is cheaper because they don't pay any tax!

The Rosa appears to be a single pannier. Do you mean the Blossom? If so, these look like floral versions of the black Basil Mara panniers I have. They fasten with straps to the rack, and they;re supposed to be left on the bike. Or maybe it's the Jasmin Rosa? That's like a smaller version, again looks like straps underneath.

If you have a rack with a 'rat trap' you can forget the straps and take the panniers off when needed, or a bungee/luggage elastic can be threaded through those slots in the top: bit of a faff but doable.

Probably more if you Googol around, but I found Amazon the cheapest when I was buying...

Small person wants her own panniers - 'something bright and colourful' We're thinking basil rosa double panniers* but can't figure out how they work. Is there a handle on top so you can carry them around? Some of the amazon reviews have emphasized that they're fiddly to remove, which makes me wonder if you leave the panniers on the bike? But even if you can get off easily, I can't see from the pics how to carry them.

Grateful for any advice. Also anyone local stocking them and/or non amazon mail order options. Cheers!

*we'd actually be keen in her having a single one, for use on the tandem, but we've not found one we liked the look of yet.
