The police could start clamping down on folk who don't give way to bikes and just pull out onto the main road, overtake when it isn't safe to to so and ignore cyclist safety zones. Also councils have to start maintaining the roads properly and stop wrecking cycle paths by putting chicanes and ther obstacles on them. I have stopped using a cycle path in Edinburgh as I'm safer on the road. Just before any numpty starts on a car v bike rant, I also drive and passed my test in 1987 (and yes I pay road tax/VED!). </p> http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=11896#post-137042 Sun, 15 Dec 2013 14:46:02 +0000 crowriver 137042@http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/ <p>Yeah, I saw this the other day.</p> <p>Many of the suggestions from 'the readers' seem to take the approach of 'protect cyclists from themselves' or even 'protect us from cyclists'.</p> <p>Not so much radical as knee-jerk reactionary stuff, much of it: compulsory hi-viz, cycle proficiency, ban nearside overtaking, respect each other (Nice Way Code anyone?).
