Based on experience of interesting driving, I'd go via West Fenton.

Off-road-wise, I was thinking there was a section of coastal path after Musselburgh, but I may be wrong.

Count me in. As long as there are some off-road sections the better to use the CX once it turns up...

Sounds fun/fascinating, I def need to learn more about the deployment of British AA in WW2 though, that site looks impossibly small for a Battery, or even a Battery minus.
What I mean is that although it physically fits, no-one in their right mind these days would put four gun positions basically on top of each other, and I'd be very surprised if it was an SOP at the time. You could argue that it's meant to be a tempting target, but then it just looks so wrong that I'd expect the greenest pilot to smell a rat.
Curious.. though a quick bit of googling suggests that the experts are agreed, I guess they just did things differently back then! :-o

Following the success of the Glenkinchie Ride in 2013, the Archerfield Brewery does free tours, and I thought it might make a nice day out with a meandering route out and back, as spring starts to make itself known (hopefully).

Also has covered bike parking, and a nice looking cafe.
