"remains were simply ripped down "

I then picked up quite a lot of kindling for my christmas fires :)

Bases for fence (I presume.)

Yup. The fence destroyed itself in the wind a few days ahead of schedule, I think the remains were simply ripped down by the workers to maintain a uniform visual effect. They obviously don't have a socket set to remove the metal. You'd think there'd be some scrap value in it.

If you want your eyes truly shocked, have a look inside the courtyard of the "Bainfield" student housing block there. It may be all multi-tone grey and brown cladding on the outside, but the inside is something else!

Here's my contribution.
From there, you go straight ahead as far as you can see (where the most distant car is parked), then turn left. That takes you down to a right turn onto Gibson Terrace, and the whole of that is two-way, as far as I can see, because when you get down to Gibson Terrace the sign tells you that traffic coming the other way has priority over you. So to get onto the canal you take the first right turn, not the second and then cycle up towards where I stood to take the photo.

That's what "they" will tell you, no doubt. It isn't at all obvious until you cycle around a bit as I did. Some signs would be useful (not to mention a bucket of tarmac....)

@chdot - are those mangled lumps of box section steel, inexpertly ripped out just above ground level?

Nasty things to fall on, or trip over, by the looks of it.

Love the pavement parking there! A foretaste of things to come no doubt. Delivery lorries, traders' vans, etc. will be next. Those beautiful flagstones will be all cracked and broken in a few years...

This has been discussed on other thread but deserves its own.

Went back today.

This is the no entry/no contraflow way to canal.

There may be another route when all the work is finished - but that's not the point re 'policy on new one-way streets'.

This is how the new path joins the towpath.

No doubt 'the gap' will get filled in one day...

BUT it would have been a great opportunity to make this section of the towpath wider. But...

The Louise Bourgeoisesque thing is just weird

It looks like it should be a kids' climbing frame.
