There's an almost alright design there, save for the connecting bar at the back, and it being set against the wall.

At least if they change it to Sheffield stands, that'll be better than Fountainpark, where they removed dozens of perfectly good Sheffields and replaced them with godawful unusuable wheelbending abominations. Marginally better was Asda Chesser who removed their official bike Sheffields but left a decent trolley rack that functions well as one. See the new Sainsburys Longstone for how it should be done, ie plentiful Sheffields easily accessible near the entrance.

Its not too bad

I'd say at best it's a semi-functional art installation. It's no Sheffield Stand in practicality terms.

If you're at the other end of the stand, I thing you'd be over the curb.

And I doubt I could get the 'bent there - and that's my shopping bike

Click image above for full photo. Its not too bad. I use a D lock through the seat stay and rear wheel, and this worked here. There are a couple of trollys left by the stands but push them onto the road, and they're no longer in the way of bikes ;O)

Not much space near the door at tht shop . They look good . Maybe if they moved them out a bit, bikes could roll through? And the same space wold get used as in the current set up where the bikes will stick out?

Presumably the designer merely intended it to be a sort of fancy-looking Sheffield Rack - so, not shoved right up against a wall...

Reversing in may work, allowing one to chain the rear triangle to the rack, although that does tend to leave the bicycle exposed.

Maybe best to treat them as traditional wheelbenders and secure your bike perpendicular to them?

If they are life size you probably can't push the bike in handlebars first, because the arty saddle/handlebar bits of the rack will foul that. If you put it in rearwards first, there's probably not enough horizontal area to stop a bike flopping over, particularly as you put a pannier on it.

Well and truly taken the crummy supermarket bike rack mantle off of Waitrose Morningside.

Today's offender is Tescos at Cannonmills. Finally responding to the fact that the spaces provided are constantly full, they have installed these lovely bike parks:

Seriously at a loss as to how to use these - wheel benders that also hold the promise of bending brake discs?
