He must have looked left, seen it was clear and thought it was clear on the right.</p> <p>"The car coming down the road basically clattered into him at right angles."</p> <p>The witness said Sir Chris's car was left in the middle of the road amid debris.</p> <p>The crash happened on Thursday evening near the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.</p> <p>Sir Chris won three Olympic titles in Beijing two years ago, making him the most successful male Olympic cyclist of all time, which earned him the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award and a knighthood.</p> <p>A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At 5.51pm on Thursday August 5 2010, police were called to Ashton New Road near to the City of Manchester stadium to reports of a two vehicle collision involving a Jaguar and a Vauxhall Vectra.</p> <p>"Drivers exchanged details and no injuries were reported."</p> <p><a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/feedarticle/9210437" rel="nofollow">http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/feedarticle/9210437</a> </p>
