First commute to the office this year and vomited as I cycled past the sewage treatment works just north of the Forth. Disgusting. Not sure why I have chosen to share this with the group...

@chdot Ok, I will confess that I also lost some time when I stopped for a chat with a fellow (opposite direction) commuter from the olden days. He very rarely commutes now but when he does he leaves after I pass through Ratho. Today I was so slow that I bumped into him.

Had mad commute at dawn today, despite weather and city Fibre roadworks and city centre roadworks times three for reasons unknown I felt huge happiness to be commuting. Fewer fkd up drivers at 7am

All good. Smuggled some colleagues into Fort Knox for meeting.

Cycle. Home late enough to not be too wet.

Took winter bike to his Mattness by cycling through the city Fibre roadworks, walked back, but of bus. Took summmer bike to his Royal Mattness only shoogly xpcassette not fkd free hub.

Found work pass. In my trouser pocket

All good

@HC I also went to the office today, but having emptied my changing room locker in August 2020 I had no concerns about its content.

Also, now that I have an e-bike, I didn't need to change, just parked the bike, replaced my wellies with smart shoes and went straight to my desk. On the way home I picked sloes. I left some for others. The attire for the return trip was wellies, fluorescent workie trousers (bought for £10 from Screwfix on Sunday), an Endura jacket and a Tilley Hat. This distinctive attire was warm, dry and comfortable.

Surprisingly the towel in my locker has failed to grow any visible organisms during lock down - most likely due to it going in the drying room during the day and only back in the locker overnight. Hooray for good facilities.

My route home from the office east west through City Centre is all road blocks just now. The bike gets through. Not so bad on the way in I tend to max the segregated .infra. The meadows, the 50metres at Tills , down behind the cop shop and up through moray house. Takes longer but is good.

Winter you want lunch time commutes if possible from your desk at home? There is a fab one for me before the ice round Clubbiedean takes less than an hour.

Yesterday I stopped and put on waterproofs but then it did not develop into the full rain. You win some you lose some

@amir - WFH definitely a double edged sword consistency wise, I know what you mean. Anytime I’ve gone to the office though it’s more hassle than it’s worth at my place (booking desks, one way systems, paying for coffee etc). Don’t miss the route (straight across city centre from Midlothian to Crewe Toll) but did like the enforced consistency.

I have a feeling that my pseudo commuting will be challenged this winter. This year I am far more challenged by badly placed meetings than last year. That means a greater necessity to go out in the early morning or evening, with little leeway. Last year I had more flexibility. So this morning I'm all dressed up, even with waterproof on - chucks it down as soon as I step out the door - so has hot shower instead and early start to work. With real commuting, there is less choice ...

Perhaps I may drift back to the office .... or get the turbo out ... or ....

Yesterday I headed out to the office for the afternoon. Shortly before 5pm our site manager comes to me and says "I have bad news for you. Your shoe is wet. There was a leak from a pipe and one of your shoes was placed right where it dripped". That wasn't an information I wanted to hear shortly before heading into 0 deg outside. I store my cycling clothes in the plant room as we don't have any other suitable facility.
I went with him to the plant room and he explainde that it looks like the gas valve got turned off during the day. That's why the heating was off in the afternoon and one of the pipes then had a little leak.

Then I remember that while walking into the plan room I was in a bit of a rush and my cycling clothes got caught into something and I pulled it. So turned out I turned off the gas the whole building.

Most people got slightly chilly during the afternoon but I got my shoe wet, so still I had to pay for it the most.

(I managed to dry the shoe a little with paper towels and then chucking it in a tumble dryer until I was about to leave. With the snow squalls along the way I had other things to worry about so didn't really notice the wet shoe)
