That is absolutely awesome!

I read his article on building the trike and it's really impressive.

(Incidentally, I clicked on a few of his links in that article and found Kinetic Bikes in Glasgow - it turns out that Ben who runs it was in the same university physics and astronomy classes as me. I remember him cycling his recumbent out on the Switchback to get to the labs at the old observatory! I haven't seen him since leaving uni, but I recall him being a really nice guy and it's good to see him doing something he clearly loves)

I semi-often see a guy heading between Fountainbridge to Gyle (morning) and back again in the evening on an orange-branded, orange-coloured cross bike. He has a large kiddytrailer in which is an even laerger black poodle. Poodle either lies down in the trailer or can put it's head out a hatch in the top.

If I were a dog I'd love to go for rides in the fresh air rather than in the boot of someone's car where there's no view and no breeze.

Thanks for the responses, folks!

I certainly don't have any objections, @algo, quite the opposite - I was simply bemused, partly because I guessed he *couldn't* be going to work because you can't take two largeish dogs to most workplaces.

Unless, of course, you are a vet! See - the internet answers everything :)

I saw him quite a few times, looks like he comes off the NEPN track at Craigleith and goes out Queensferry Rd to Oaktree Vets at Barnton. I guess he comes from Roseburn on the NEPN as I've never seen him on the North side of the cycle path.
Some good information, (incl his name) here (clicky linky):
The benefit of having the dogs on the back is that it calms down the motorists a lot. Motorists tend to get a lot less angry with dogs, horses and children than adult cyclists ;-( And going up the hill on Queensferry Rd to Clermiston at 10mph, less angry motorists is a big concern.
Good on him for not having latch-key dogs, I say.

@Firedog - but if I were transporting you, I'd prefer the cage to the rear...

Although perhaps any excess heat could be harnessed into forward motion!

Think it's an electric bike - what a great way to travel.

Vet on Queensferry Road. http://www.oaktreevet.co.uk

I see him sometimes on the NEPN. I assume they're his dogs and he takes them to work. Has done for years. I assume he lives somewhere not within walking distance of his surgery and further assume that he likes to ride a bicycle. I also assume he is a committed environmentalist on the basis that he has gone to the bother of getting either a specially built or customised cargo bike for transporting his dogs. So I'm guessing he doesn't have a car.

I think the question you meant to ask on a cycling forum is why not?

My name's instography but you can call me Sherlock.

With huge apologies if this chap is a member here, but... why?

So you're not taking the dogs for a walk. You're not taking them a mile down the road (cos then you'd walk them), so why? If I was taking two largeish dogs ~10 miles then I'd stick them in the car.
Where do you go, where you want to take your dogs, that is too far to walk and not far enough to drive?

By the way, this was taken at Blackhall so it's not someone living in the inner city looking to take the dogs somewhere nice for a walk.

Slightly bemused but I'm sure some folks on here recognise / know the pilot!
