How much of council income comes from council tax as opposed to general taxation?

We should publisize this!

What next, road tolls for non locals on roads?

Is he proposing tollbooths? East Lothian councillors are great comedy value at least, I remember one objecting to a cafe saying "We don't want people sitting about the streets drinking coffee, that's for foreign countries".

"perhaps locals should get to use the amenities they pay for in their council tax for free but the MANY visitors from Edinburgh should be charged?"

It's called "tourism".

'We' spend money in Luca's etc.

They pay tax to ELC.

Interesting tweet from councillor steviebsnp

@ELresidents and the MANY visitors from Edinburgh

If we focus on east east Lothian on any given Sunday - will there be more visitors from Edinburgh than local residents? It is a very sparsely populated part of that authority and it is very picturesque and will attract MANY visitors from Edinburgh.

perhaps locals should get to use the amenities they pay for in their council tax for free but the MANY visitors from Edinburgh should be charged?

The bit along the A90 from Queensferry is like that. I came back that way for the first time in ages today. The wider pavement from the gate into Dalmeny Estate down the hill was pleasant (if in need of a good sweep) but as soon as you get near to the A90 it's a mess.

A real pinch point just before the junction, where the path halves in width, then the bit along the A90 is like a roller coaster, only less smooth. Is this the new bit? It seems like they widened the path by about a metre but it's so uneven. At 15mph it felt like riding over cobbles, so bobbly was it. Then it narrows to the width of one broad-shouldered rider.

Segregated infrastructure along arterial routes needs to be better than this if we're going to persuade more than a handful of people to cycle this way on a daily basis.

And don't get me started on how weavy and roundabout the official cycle route from the bridge through to Dalmeny is...

I often get the impression that East Lothian Council often introduce cycle facilities more as a traffic calming feature rather than something which is actually of use to cyclists.

I had a wee toddle in the direction of East Lothian and I met two examples of brand new infrastructure that don't really meet a decent standard.

- new lines painted on the B1361 in Prestonpans. These are only a metre wide on a very wide road with a 30mph limit.

- on the dual carriageway east of Seton Collegiate Church, the off-road cycle path has been resurfaced. Given that it looked brand new and smooth from the road, I decided to give it a go. Big mistake - on a road bike at anything above 12 mph you risk having your teeth shaken out. I don't know how they managed to get such a bumpy surface to look so smooth (perhaps they should work with the cosmetics industry)!
