Not sure anglers would set up in that underpass, but dogs possible (tho I am only aware of one dog that could read). Cyclists also possible.

The rain went away so I went for a wander.

This is the chain I remember from years ago (Ronaldson’s Wharf) -

If you can't see it, imagine it's night time...

However I did find some planters, but not until I crossed the main road.

'Problem' would seem to be Sandport rather than Sandport Place!

Though it may well not be a through public route!

To the left of the pillars is a gap where people can go left or right -

So the planters are creating a very minor diversion.

The red dashed lines here -

are all accessible and may be all private - certainly the route through the flats will be.

I don't if these signs are against the spirit or letter of the law -

I didn't see any restriction signs going anti-clockwise around the waterline -

Does go right past their windows of course, so I can see their point too, though I have cycled there as the chain is easy to get over.

But Styles and Kissing gates are ok??

Oh well, I see your point, as its an inner city path.

Chains would be regarded as a barrier as they prevent access to disabled folk, which I believe is a very very big no-no...

"The Residents Association were asked to remove the barrier and the sign. . However, planters and a further sign at the access gate had since been installed creating a barrier to access."

Is there any enforcment? Can anything be forced on the owners? Do rights of access legislation provide for peds only, so chains are not regarded as a barrier?

From recent Access Forum minutes -

"
In 2009 the core path at the Water of Leith had been blocked and a ‘no entry’ sign installed. The Residents Association were asked to remove the barrier and the sign. . However, planters and a further sign at the access gate had since been installed creating a barrier to access. An update would be provided at the next Forum meeting.

"

I presume this is the section on the west side of the WoL that goes to Commercial Wharf/Street. Probably just right of this photo -

Anyone know if there are still chains/gates/planters in the way?
