I stopped after my Cateye went under the wheel of a bus a few months after I bought it (my fault didn't clip it in right) but never got round to replacing. I've still got the mount on my handle bars! I use my phone for Strava but mostly I don't bother.

yes, but I only have a magnets and wires computer on one of my bikes

Buy more wires and magnets :) (cheaper than a GPS computer). Transfer computer across whichever bike you are using.

I gave up using computers pretty much.

Topeak make a dry bag for iPhones.

They make them for more than just iphones ;-)

Topeak Panobike Series

I use the Tigra Sport Bike Console but would probably have opted for the Topeak Ridecase had the Samsung version been out at the time.

@kaputnik - yes, but I only have a magnets and wires computer on one of my bikes. Quite tempting to get one for either bike. and one that would map my ride, which computer doesn't do. Especially since I don't have a smartphone or gps.

Don't leave a dry bag in your pocket when the pocket goes through the washing machine. For some reason they don't like that kind of wet and the poppers don't pop anymore.

Topeak make a dry bag for iPhones. I ordered one for just that reason, I'm out in the rain a lot. At the moment the phone is usually wrapped in a piece bag while in my special Craghopper Kiwi phone pocket but that makes it hard to see the screen.

But the cost of replacing a dead smart-phone will add considerably to that cost. I managed to kill my Blackberry just after Christmas commuting into work in a biblical deluge - and that was with it inside the pocket of my waterproof jacket.

Bought a Garmin after that and it is stem mounted and (so far) completely waterproof.

I wonder how long it takes to lock GPS as I'm straight onto the bike out of the door. Don't fancy hanging around for a couple of minutes waiting on GPS.

Anyway, I had my Cateye cadence (wired) stolen when forgetting to remove it one day. Still got the sensors and I've been looking for a 2nd hand one, so if anyone was thinking of trading an old cadence wired in I could give you a (much) older computer for the trade £30 and chuck in a tenner too?

It's still £50 for a fancy speedo. While I love my two Cateye Mity 3 computers from ages ago, I could be tempted by a Cateye Stealth 10 for the torpedo; I certainly have a couple of defunct wired units to trade in.

Hmm. Wonder if I have any old-but-still-working-with-a-new-battery wired CatEyes... My worry about something fancier is that it'd be more than twenty quid lost if I ever forgot to unclip it.

Broadly favourable review on roadcc. From my experience of problems getting a signal on the Garmin, the only bit that would trouble me would be that "...it takes longer than the Garmin to tune in to the GPS signal." But it's not specific about how much longer.
