@IanMcR- use the jacket the very odd winter day where temperature are below freezing, but agree- it is more useful away from cycling.

I bought a jacket 1 or 2 Special Buys ago - think I've worn it once and that was to the pub. It's just too warm to cycle in.

I bought fluoro shoe covers a while back in EBC. They get dirty quite quickly. But then the outlay on the Aldi ones is far lower than I shelled out for the Sealskinz ones.

I got the rechargeable lights set too. I already have a set but with my bikes being in 2 locations, 2 sets makes sense. The merino headband kept my ears toasty this afternoon. The base layer top and padded tights are nice quality for the price - I'll get more of those if they have any next time I'm in. I went for the reflector set too. I quite like the idea of the individual spoke reflectors. Oh and I got more winter gloves.

In short, I'm skint now.

@ejstubbs, the ones I bought were the round front and rear set, so not the same but, like you I managed to figure out how to remove the wee plastic insert and get the front light working.
Both rear lights refused to work unless you press REALLY hard with your thumb on the back of the battery so it looks like a bad batch.
Agree about the packaging.

@tammytroot: I bought one of these ones and it didn't work 'out of the box'. Being an inveterate fiddler I then discovered that if you open up the battery compartment, there's a plastic disc between one of the CR2032s and its contact to the circuit. It is marked "Remove", but if you didn't open the thing up you'd have no idea it was there. It's not mentioned in the instruction leaflet either. With that gone, the thing works fine.

No idea whether that might have been what was stopping yours from working.

On a side note, I really dislike that single use plastic packaging they use that has to be cut open with scissors. Apart it not being planet-freindly, I always seem to end up getting speared by a sharp end of the fillet as I cut it off the edge of the package.

If anyone is tempted by the £2.99 flashy lights DONT!
Bought a set from aldi in porty this morning, tested them when I got home, front light fine, back not functioning.
Took them back, had to wait in a big queue at the till to get them exchanged, got the new ones home, exactly the same fault.
Probably a bad batch. Not going back today to wait in yet another queue!

Was there at 9 a.m. This morning. Not many bargain hunters at that time. One fella bought 5 pairs of the £2.99 socks.

I went for the usual medium merino long sleeved base layer. It is a total copy of the Rapha one for £40 less. grey. Wearing it now.

Waterproof socks and the £2.99 socks I always get a pair. And set of rechargeable lights. Their light offer this year is varied. I was going for the very bright front light but the clip attachment is a little flimsy. So went with a pair of rechargeable ones.

In non cycling section - pair of memory foam slippers. £3.99. I am thinking the foam might have a bad memory (more a joke buy as Mrs Garto abhors my £4.99 Aldi Birkenstock copies but I don't). For later shoppers the Douro red at £4.99 looks a steal.
