I thought this was a really good event. Well attended as well - I'd guess there must have been 12 or so kids and 40ish adults taking part. A real mix of experience - from first-timers to folk who had clearly done this before; and a mix of bikes - mainly MTBs, but a good smattering of CXs.

A well-judged course by all accounts, challenging but not off-putting for beginners, following the paths in the park by Craigmillar Castle - certainly more technical than just going round a grass track, as a good chunk of it followed the twisty paths through the woods.

All in all, it looked great fun. There may be a few CX sales made on the back of that (although it felt more of an MTB event to me) - I certainly fancy one and I was just spectating...

Also, in related news, CEC Countryside Ranger Service were there handing out leaflets proposing/consulting on creating a mountain bike trail in the park.

It isn't cyclocross it is just riding round and round a track which doesn't need a full suspension ££££ MTB. That is all the poster is saying.

@ARobComp - My feeling is that the tricross (i have one with exceptionally spongy brakes, I may have mentioned this?) is a souped up tourer/commuter/road bike but despite the suggestion the one thing it isn't is CX and the smallprint says cyclocross style or somesuch? But you should give it a go and let us know. Still hanker after the Tricross Comp with the Roval Pave wheels when the EBC knock £300 off it in sales it is good value, but it is a definite road bike 2x10 gears etc.

I quite fancy giving cyclocross a go, but I doubt my road bike is quite the right machine for it... (A convenient excuse for me to buy another bike - thinking about a CX bike with disc brakes that's suitable for a spot of touring.)

May well go along and spectate.

Interesting looking event on Tuesday night up in Craigmillar Castle Park - how many laps of a circuit do you think you'll manage in 48 minutes?

There's a half-time-length jumior event as well.

Given it's only 10 minutes ride from my front door I'm hoping to be there - but armed with a camera rather than trying it out. Seems you can just turn up and ride (Min, an outing for the CX bike???)

More details here...
