Cycle Hackney app allows users to report potholes and report problem areas for cyclists, as well as sharing photos

From above link -

"

More residents cycle to work than any London borough

More residents cycle than drive 15.4% vs. 12.8%

14,054 walking commuters were recorded in the 2011 cencus, up from 7,811 in 2001

Hackney has the highest ratio of female to male cyclists (37% are women) of any London borough

...

But how has this remarkable change happened? There have been no Superhighways or Superwalkways, no grand project. In a nutshell, Hackney has taken a lead from Jan Gehl, the Danish Urbanist, whose simple message for a liveable city is to ‘create a better balance between cycling and walking and motor vehicles’.

"

CEC got Jan Gehl to look at Princes Street.

"Wherever we can we try to remove car ownership and encourage people to actually make that… actually, we take away their ability to own cars."

Wow, that's a brave move. I hope it works.

"

Hackney’s cycling boss interviewed: 15 new things we learned about the future of cycling in the borough

"

http://www.londoncyclist.co.uk/9-new-things-hackneys-transport-boss-told-interviewed-cycling

Of course Hackney isn't Edinburgh (and vice versa) but it's probably the borough doing the most for cycling (like Edinburgh in Scotland)

Mare Street used to be full of buses -

Don't think CEC would 'dare' to do contra-flow cycling like this -
