Glow in the dark road unveiled in the Netherlands

Glow in the dark road markings have been unveiled on a 500m stretch of highway in the Netherlands.

"The paint contains a "photo-luminising" powder that charges up in the daytime and slowly releases a green glow at night, doing away with the need for streetlights..."

I presume this is being trialled on a trunk road or similar inter-city route. I can't imagine it being a great idea on popular cycle routes. In cities where there are shops leaving lights on in windows, it may be practical.

But with the UK's history on clearing snow from roads, I doubt we'd see them visible much in the winter. And then you have to factor in how many road surfaces are broken up an badly surfaced...

Interesting to see how the trial goes.
