Anyway if you're riding it on an mtb I understand you would call it North Shore rather than boardwalk. Don't think that fits very well into any songs that I know of.

Up until the rain this week you could have gone under the redmoss boardwalk but now it will be muddy again. Obviously you would have to crawl.

Carol king wrote another The Drifters song - up on the roof. I maybe prefer her version, it is joyful

I think the new board on the north side make this more doable. I fear that the guy my workmate encountered felt he had as much right to be on a boardwalk as a family walking. Now we can agree to differ but the thing is not called a board cycle and there is a clear sign requesting that bikes be left before the boardwalk. I can see no advantage in cycling it, you would be better able to spot wildlife on foot.

Good to know that there is boardwalk at Glentress so this might cause spill over to any bit of boardwalk?

Maybe more bike parking could be provided to encourage.

Maybe little slippers could be left to encourage those that are cleated to take their shoes off.

Maybe they keep having to replace the wood as it is being pummelled by bikes (I don't believe this, the wood rots as it is on a bog).

Just because something is possible doesn't mean it is a good idea. In case I am sounding Po-faced I admit I will sometimes disregard the cyclists dismount sign on the aqueduct.

Pointless bit of fun that must stop now (again I am joking)

The original board cyclist appears to have reacted, not aggressively, but as if the walker was hassling the cyclist. I think he said something like c'mon man I get this hassle all the time or something like that.

Good for us all to see things from other people's perspectives and then see if the things we do should continue being the things we do.

Plenty of roads and tracks in pentlands, numerous little circuits popping up around Edinburgh for budding Danny macaskills etc.

I often cycle around it, for the same reason that people walk around it, to look for wildlife and to enjoy the gorgeous views. With it being a board walk you can cycle it without causing any damage. So long as you ride no faster than walking pace and are happy to give way to other users there's no problem.

Someone's pointless cycling will always be someone else's bit of fun.

Red Moss would be a matter of minutes on bike ... but places like glentress have a fair bit of boardwalk cycling now ... as it's a feature.

That'll be why the occasional mtb'er in the Pentlands will see the Red Moss boardwalk as a bit of fun.

AKen good point re pointlessness and indeed good link to enforcement, or impossibility thereof

I bought the first copies of 2001 AD in 1977 or whenever they appeared. Each copy had added freebies such as spy ID card etc, which I used. If only I had not used them and kept the comics they would be worth pounds.

You could very easily cycle round this - but what would be the point? It only takes 10 minutes to walk the full circuit and, as it's a boggy moss, there's nowhere you could cycle from it unless you've got really, really fat tyres - like this:

http://starwarsrpg.pettycomp.net/Images/lawmaster.jpg

I was there with family sans velo on Saturday. We also encountered an adult and child cycling round. Shouldn't really do it as it's pretty narrow and obviously been upgraded to be accessible for people using wheelchairs.

"Not for cycling on"

Legally speaking that's almost certainly not true.

But probably reasonable to leave it for amblers.

I assume it's not particularly wide.

My mild mannered but fairly stocky workmate wishes me to register a complaint.

He was up at thriepmuir reservoir last night with wife and small child. They were walking round the red moss boardwalk which has been recently renovated.

They met a cyclist on the boardwalk - prior to renovation the north side of the walk would have been tricky as planks run east west. Now looks like you can cycle a bike round.

There is a sign at the entrance that says Leave bike here. My workmate who is reasonable said but there is nowhere to lock it. I said what about on the sign?

Further it is a board walk - boards suspended, usually over seaside or sphagnum moss for walking on.

Not for cycling on
